Nanushka, the Hungarian fashion brand opened the first US store in Soho, NYC!

Born and raised in Budapest, Sandra Sandor graduated from the London College of Fashion in 2005. Soon after that, in 2006 she launched her own label Nanushka.

Known for its effortless femininity and East-meets-West feel, it is hardly a surprise that the unique brand has become a favorite among influencers and fashion editors alike.

For the first seven years, Nanushka sold only locally to consumers in Budapest and then slowly began to sell internationally, before embarking on a bigger (and very successful) global growth strategy. The label is now sold in some of the biggest retailers across the world.

Sandra says that the culture of Budapest has contributed to the brand's appeal: "I think the way and place I grew up has greatly influenced my style and my journey as a designer. I believe this comes through my collections and the women who wear my clothes can relate to this. I try to create pieces that are effortless and can become wardrobe staples without being fussy." My whole life I felt like we were missing pieces to our Hungarian heritage. The only things passed down through the generations were the food and some family stories. After this trip, I feel like I got to fill in those gaps. I have a better sense of what it means to be Hungarian-American and I feel a stronger connection to my great grandfather.

I got a more thorough experience of Hungarian culture than if I would have traveled by myself...
