Christmas is coming!
This year’s Hungarian Christmas Market will be held on December 14, 2019 at the American Hungarian Foundation in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
It will be the third time the Christmas Market will be held at this location so if you haven’t had the opportunity to go in the past put it on your calendar this year, you won’t be disappointed. You will be able to purchase beautiful gifts inside the museum made by talented crafters and buy delicious Hungarian dishes, chimney cake, mulled wine, and other specialties outside in the courtyard. Enjoy a few hours or the whole day getting into the Christmas spirit. In addition to doing some shopping and lunching, you can catch the Hungarian Boy and Girl Scouts of New Brunswick performing an annual Nativity play, listen to young Hungarian musicians playing traditional Christmas songs and stop at the ReConnect Hungary, Hungarian Birthright Program’s “table” to apply for a scholarship.
The idea was to replicate the Christmas Market scene in Budapest or Vienna or Zagreb or any of the other amazing cities in Europe that you can visit during the holidays. Although the one in New Brunswick may not be as large, or last as many days, it definitely has a cozy, spirited, Christmassy feeling and it is a bit closer. We are looking forward to seeing you.

My whole life I felt like we were missing pieces to our Hungarian heritage. The only things passed down through the generations were the food and some family stories. After this trip, I feel like I got to fill in those gaps. I have a better sense of what it means to be Hungarian-American and I feel a stronger connection to my great grandfather.

I got a more thorough experience of Hungarian culture than if I would have traveled by myself...
