Budapest to Host Swimming Championships in 2027

If you missed the FINA World Aquatics Championships held in Budapest in 2017, do not fret, you will have another opportunity in 2027.

The decision was announced recently in South Korea to award Hungary the honor of hosting the World Championships for the second time in a decade. After Mexico City dropped the ball in 2015, Hungary stepped in at the last minute to host the “best ever” World Championships in 2017, which is why the committee had full confidence to appoint Hungary home for the games again. The biennial global games of swimming, diving and water sports are expected to take place at the Duna Aréna, built especially for FINA 2017, the Alfréd Hajós pool complex on Margaret Island and Balatonfüred. In 2017 Team USA brought home 46 medals followed by China and Russia, but not far behind, the small but mighty Hungarian Team came in 9 th place out of 29 competing nations with two gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze medals. Perhaps we can schedule the ReConnect Hungary trip to coincide with the games in 2027.

My whole life I felt like we were missing pieces to our Hungarian heritage. The only things passed down through the generations were the food and some family stories. After this trip, I feel like I got to fill in those gaps. I have a better sense of what it means to be Hungarian-American and I feel a stronger connection to my great grandfather.

I got a more thorough experience of Hungarian culture than if I would have traveled by myself...
